
Anna Michalak Schmid, 94, of Brenham, passed away
peacefully Saturday, April 5, 2008, to be with the Lord.
Miss Annie was born July 21, 1913, in Chappell Hill, to Stephan and Rosalie
Jozwiak Michalak. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church where she also attended school. On July 12, 1948, she wed Edmund
Charles Schmid in St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Msgr. Charles Weisnerowski
and to this union one daughter, Mary Ellen, was born. Miss Annie was a
people person. She worked for many years alongside her father in Annie’s Caf/
and was best known for her chili. She was strong in the Catholic faith and a
lifetime parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of
the choir and the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Annie enjoyed the
outdoors, picking pecans, playing dominos, and caring for many in need. She
was known as Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she
loved dearly.
Her parents; husband; brothers, Alex, Eddie, Leonard,
Burney, Stanley and Charles “C.P.” Michalak; and father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Ed and Mamie Schmid, preceded her in death.
Her loving family includes daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Eddie
Hugo Jr. of Brenham; grandchildren, Chad Hugo and Judi of Sealy, Chanda
Cowen and husband Joe of Brenham, and Cacey Withem of Brenham and friend
Liam McCarty; great-grandchildren, Morgan Hugo, Boo Burttschell, Brittany
Burttschell, Jett Cowen and one due this summer; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Agnes and J.R. Crider of Marble Falls, Florence McDaniel of
Austin, and Rose and Floyd Moehlmann of Brenham; sisters-in-law, Josephine
Michalak of Houston, Maria Michalak of Friendswood and Dorothy Michalak of
Brenham; along with many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
