October 16, 2004 These were taken immediately after we closed on the house. Despite the 4 huge windows, the room felt dark because of the shades and wood paneling.
October 17, 2004 Anxious to get to the original wood that we hope is under paneling, we start working on what will be our bedroom.

The acoustic tile ceiling had to go, and all the dirt that was trapped between the beaded board ceiling and the tiles landed on Harper. My husband is definitely not afraid of hard work--lucky for me... Meanwhile, I worked on removing the remaining pieces of wall paper and cheesecloth. November 2, 2004
With most of the demolition complete, we're ready for the floors to be refinished. A lot of people do this last, but since we can't move until we sell our other house, we need to do the floors now. If we suddenly sell, I don't want to move here, and then have to move stuff again when the floors need to be done. We will have to be careful, but hopefully it will be fine. January 15, 2006
Unfortunately, the gaps between the wood wall boards were too big to fill. For cleaning and energy conservation, we had a thin layer of sheetrock installed in the front rooms. I'm doing a time-consuming, but inexpensive plaster-look treatment that will hopefully look like it could be original.
You can see the completed new beaded board ceiling and part of the exposed air duct. I'm about 5'11" in these tennis shoes, so that gives you some perspective for the height of the ceilings. June 25, 2007
